What Is SAP Business Technology Platform?
SAP Business Technology Platform is SAP’s platform-as-a-service for everything that sits around the ERP core: application development and automation, integration, data and analytics, and AI. It runs on AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud; supports Cloud Foundry, Kyma and ABAP Cloud runtimes; and is where SAP expects customers to build extensions and integrations so that S/4HANA stays clean and upgradeable.

Do we need S/4HANA before adopting SAP BTP?
No. BTP works with ECC, S/4HANA on-premise and S/4HANA Cloud. Many customers start on BTP while still on ECC, moving interfaces to Integration Suite and rebuilding custom code as extensions so that the later S/4HANA conversion is smaller. Joule and Business Data Cloud, however, deliver most value with S/4HANA as the core.
